Soccer Prospect - How To Get An Edge On Your Competition

If you are a soccer prospect and you are doing everything you can to play soccer at the next level, you need to know you are competing against prospects from all around the country and even the world. As I'm sure you already know, soccer is the number one sport in the world, and many foreign students are now using soccer as a way to get a United States college education

Let Coaches Know About You.

You need to keep in mind that unless you are being recruited by a major Division I school, most college coaches just don't have huge recruiting budgets that allow them to recruit in an unlimited manner. Coaches that find themselves on a limited recruiting budget rely heavily on word of mouth recommendations from high school and travel team coaches, and they also rely on hearing directly from qualified high school student-athletes.

Don't Listen To The Crowd

Some people will try and convince you that coaches don't like to hear directly from a soccer prospect like you. While it is true that some coaches will not want to hear directly from you as a potential player, the truth is most of them will be glad to receive your information.

Just make sure you have the necessary talent and skills to play at the Division level the coach is competing at. You don't have to be the next soccer superstar, but you must have the talent and skills necessary to play at the next level.  Get out and see some college soccer games and determine what division level is right for you, then contact those coaches directly.

Do It The Right Way

When you do begin making contact with coaches, you should make sure you do it the correct way. Make sure you tell the coach about all your major accomplishments on the field, any evaluations you have of your soccer skills from a camp or showcase event, and most importantly, tell them how you can help their soccer program be successful or continue to be successful.

You must give serious consideration to marketing and promoting yourself to college soccer coaches.  As a soccer prospect, you must give yourself an upper hand on your competition, Making direct contact with coaches is the best way to get the edge you need.
