Have you given any consideration to NAIA Softball? If not, you should. The NAIA, or the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, offers you an alternate route to softball at the next level.
Two Scholarship Divisions
Unlike softball in the NCAA, which has three levels of competition, NAIA schools are divided up into Division I and Division II only. The really good news is that both division levels offer scholarships.
No matter how good you are, to get recruited and be in line for a scholarship you need to let college coaches know who you are and why you deserve to be recruited by their program. You have to take responsibility for your recruitment to make it happen for you.
You must make contact with coaches and let them know what you have to offer their softball program and that you can play softball at their level of competition. I can guarantee you that you won't be recruited if college coaches don't know who you are or if you even exist as a high school prospect.
NAIA Scholarships
Just like the NCAA, most NAIA softball scholarships are partial scholarships and not full rides. Put in simpler terms, this means that coaches can share their allocation of scholarship dollars between a larger number of players.
Everyone is looking for a full scholarship for college, but for most players partial scholarships should be seen as good news. This gives you a better shot at getting some scholarship dollars, even if you end up playing very little or even on a junior varsity squad.
Summary
As a high school softball player you should be aware that the level of play is very high at NAIA schools, just like NCAA institutions. If you have some NAIA schools in your area, I suggest visiting them and seeing what NAIA softball is really all about.
