NAIA Golf may be the path to playing in college you have been looking for. Most NAIA schools offer scholarships to golfers just like their NCAA counterparts.
Scholarship Opportunities At Two Different Levels
NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) golf can offer you scholarship opportunities to play at two different levels of competition, Division I and II. There is no Division III level in the NAIA. Just like in the NCAA,,the Division I schools are larger and the competition is a little more intense.
Extremely Competitive
NAIA golf is very competitive on the course. You will find the golfers to be excellent players. However, the competition to play golf at this level is a little less intense than with NCAA schools because the schools are typically smaller and less well known by the general public. Even though the competition for these scholarships may be a little less intense, don't expect to walk right into one of these scholarships without doing your homework.
Recruiting Budgets Are Smaller
Schools that belong to the NAIA, especially at the division II level, typically have pretty small recruiting budgets. That means they can't just travel the country looking to sign undiscovered golfers before other colleges recruit them. They have to rely on finding golfers by inexpesnive and even methods.
The Opportunities Are Out There
If you are an above average high school golfer and you are looking to play at the next leve, NAIA golf may be a great opportunity for you. To make it happen, you need to start marketing and promoting yourself to coaches no later than your junior year. These college will love to hear from you if they determine you have what it takes to play for their program.
