If you want to play baseball at the next level, then NAIA baseball is an avenue you don't want to overlook. The NAIA provides a great alternative to NCAA schools and it still offers the opportunity to earn a scholarship.
What is the NAIA anyway? It's an alternative college sports sanctioning body like the NCAA. The NAIA actually stands for the National Association Of Intercollegiate Athletics. NAIA schools are typically smaller schools and do not share the name recognition of larger NCAA schools.
Great Baseball
You won't tyically see NAIA baseball games scores on the national sports networks. As I said earlier, most of these schools are smaller and less known that other larger schools. However, the level and quality of play at these schools is extremely high. The athletes who play in these schools are scholarship athletes and many of them could have played at an NCAA school if would have chosen to do so.
Unlike the three division levels of the NCAA, NAIA schools are divided up into only Division I and Division II. They offer athletic scholarships at both the Division I and Division II levels of the NAIA. Most of the scholarships given are partial scholarships, especially to freshmen and sophomores.
How To Play In The NAIA
To play baseball in the NAIA, you must have the athleticism and talent to play at this level. YOu can't be an average high school player and expect to play college baseball. However, no matter how good of a player you are, to get recruited you must let coaches know about you and why you deserve a shot at being recruited. In short, you have to take responsibility for your recruitment if you want to make it happen.
Summary
You need to make contact with coaches and let them know about your accomplishments on the field and how you can help their baseball program continue to be successful. Coaches must be sure that you are a good fit for their program and you can add value to the team. One thing I can promise you is that you won't be recruited to paly NAIA Baseball if coaches don't know your name or anything about you.
