Stepping out from the crowd of high school baseball prospects and getting to the college level is not always an easy chore. There are thousands (if not millions) of high school players from around the country and even the world trying to get into college to play baseball at the next level.
College vs. High School
If you want to set yourself apart from all the other baseball prospects out there, you need to really understand the differences in the high school and college game and what college coaches are really looking for in the athletes they recruit.
College players are simply stronger, faster, and more skilled than high school players. College players also have a good grasp on what it takes to keep themselves in great condition. Most college players understand that a good diet and getting the proper amount of rest is important to being their best on the field.
Specialized Coaching
A majority of college teams have strength and conditioning coaches and/or athletic trainers who can constantly assist them with their training needs. Some colleges even go so far hiring mental training coaches who help their players with their confidence and visualization skills.
Obviously, in high school these type of specialized coaches are not available. You and all the other high school baseball prospects out there have to take it upon yourself to get yourself in shape and improve your game during the off-season.
Endurance Is A Factor
Another key difference in college and high school baseball is the amount of games played during the season. This creates more stress on the players bodies and also requires a lot of discipline and time management to keep up with the academic requirements of a college athlete.
The college game is faster and the competition level is just so much higher. Practices are more intense and baseball is a year round process of working out and trying to improve both baseball specific and overall athletic skills.
Summary
If you are one of the thousands of high school baseball prospects out there and you feel like you have the talent and drive that it takes to play at the next level, make a commitment right now to do whatever it takes to get noticed and recruited by college coaches. You can give yourself a big advantage over your competition by simply marketing and promoting yourself to coaches!
