Have you ever wondered about college golf scholarships and what it really takes to play at the next level? If so, this page can help you understand how the recruiting process really works and how you can put yourself in the best position possible to get recruited.

Millions Now Playing Golf

Golf has seen a tremendous surge of popularity among young people all across the country, and even the world. This is great for the game of golf, but for a high school golfer looking to make it to the next level, it means the competition has gone through the roof.  You have to be among the best high school golfers if you have any thoughts of makng it to the college level.

Currently, there are about 490 colleges and universities that offer golf scholarships for men, and around 340 that offer women's scholarships in golf. These scholarships can be found at all division levels (except Division III) for both NCAA and NAIA schools.

The Scholarship Numbers

Here is how the golf scholarships break down for the NCAA

Division I Men - 4.5 Scholarships

Division I Women - 6 Scholarships

Division II Men - 3.6 Scholarships

Division II Women - 5.4 Scholarships

Scholarship numbers in the NAIA are similar.

How To Get Noticed

A select few golfers each year get enough publicity on their own and they are able to be recruited and offered scholarships without any real action on their part. They are the "best of the best" and golf coaches from around the country are standing in hopes of signing them to a scholarship. These golfers are commonly referred to as "blue-chippers."

For everyone else, you need to take some easy but consistent steps to put yourself in a position for college golf scholarships. The specific steps you need to take is marketing and promoting yourself.

What To Do NOW

You can do this pretty easily by sending coaches and programs that you target your athletic resume along with a personal letter from you. Many of these coaches will be thrilled to hear from you, particularly at the smaller schools, if you have the talent and skills to help their program succeed.
