Are you trying to get an edge in the college football recruiting process?   The recruiting process is often misunderstood and is full of lies and half-truths.  If you truly want an advantage over your competitors, you need to learn all you can about the process really works.

The encouraging news is that there are plenty of football scholarships available each year.  This sport offers more scholarships than any other college sport.   The bad news for you is that for each roster spot available, there are thousands of high school football players competing for the spot.

College Football Recruiting -  4 Keys You Must Know

As stated above, you will face massive competition as you try and get to the next level of football.  However, you can take a few steps that can give you a clear advantage over everyone else.  Here are four steps you should know about college football recruiting.

1-  Know What Level Of College Football Is For You.  Many athletes waste any chance of playing college football because they have made up their minds that it is Division 1 or nothing for them.   I understand the desire to play Division 1, but not everyone has the size and/or athleticism to play at that level.  You may be better suited for Division 1AA, Division 2, or even Division 3.  Each of these levels offers great football and a chance to keep playing football.

2-  Don't Rely On Anyone Else To Get Recruited.   Many athletes will depend on their high school coach, a friend of their parents, or just plain luck when it comes to being recruited.  The college football recruiting system is complicated and it takes effort.  You need to take responsibility for your own recruitment.

3-  Research Schools You Want To Play For.  Once you decide what level of football is right for you, spend some time researching the schools you believe you can play for.  The Internet is a great tool for doing this.  Every program has a website.  Use their site to do your research.

4-  Promote and Market Yourself.   Make a list of the schools you thing you can play for that seem to have a need for your skills, and start making contact.  Find out which coach  (their website will tell you) is in charge of recruiting and send him a letter or email.  Many of them will be glad to hear from you.

College Football Recruiting -  Summing It Up

If you have the talent and skills to play in college, you can make it to the next level.  If coaches are not beating a path to your door, you need to take control of your recruiting and start making contact with coaches, especially coaches in charge of recruiting.  The college football recruiting process is very competitive, do everything you can to get an advantage over your competition.
