If you are trying to win the basketball recruiting game so that you can play at the next level, you are not alone.  Not only is the competition in America fierce, there are now millions of players from around the world who are competing for the same roster spot you want.   In fact, players from around the world are getting better all the time and they have learned they can compete with American players if they bring a unique skill to the game, such as the ability to be a consistent and reliable three point shooter.

Although American players are not really improving their basketball skills as compared to players from years ago, they are bigger, stronger, and faster than ever before.  Bottom line: getting to the next level is not easy.

Basketball Recruiting -  Tips To Beating The Competition

Here are a few tips that can help you get ahead in the basketball recruiting process.

1-  Get In The Gym.   Basketball skills are somewhat becoming a thing of the past.  Many top recruits today can't shoot a fifteen foot jump shot, but yet they are recruited because they are a great athlete.  If you are a good athlete, and you can knock down a mid-range jump shot, you should rise above your competition.

2-  Get More Athletic.  In many cases, athletic skills are given far more of a priority than basketball skills.  Do everything you can to increase your explosiveness, lateral speed, and quickness.

3-  Play Defense.  Have you watched any of the All-Star games such as the McDonald's All Star and you hear "he's got to learn how to play defense."   If coaches see you have a commitment to playing defense and you give the effort on the defensive end (defense is mostly effort), you should win points when coaches evaluate you.

4-  Start Contacting Coaches Now.  Don't make the mistake of waiting until your senior season to start contacting college coaches. Start contacting them as early as your sophomore season.

Basketball Recruiting - Summing It Up

You can make it to the next level and play college basketball.  There is great basketball played at all levels of basketball form Division One all the way down to Division Three.  Don't lock yourself into the mentality that you it is Division One or nothing.  There are scholarships at the Division Two level and scholarships available at the NAIA Division One and Two levels.  Roll up your sleeves today and use these basketball recruiting ideas to rise above your competition.
